John D. Clause
Executive Director, The World Children's Center
John has over 40 years of experience leading and managing businesses, many of which were start-ups with just under half those years spent focused on Marketing and Major Gift Development efforts in the non-profit sector.
John Clause earned a B.A. in Political Science from Colgate University in 1978, and received a Juris Doctorate degree from Ohio Northern University School of Law in 1982.
John has served as the Senior Vice President of Prison Fellowship International, a 40 year old organization founded by Chuck Colson, based in Washington DC. He was responsible for all private fundraising channels including mass marketing, major donor development, principal gifts, foundations and planned giving.
John served as National Vice President of Development and Philanthropy with World Vision for over 17 years. He oversaw all major gift fundraising activities in the United States, including working with individuals, corporations, foundations and strategic partnerships. He also provided oversight to Planned Giving activities of the organization. John was the chief architect and Campaign Chair of the For Every Child Campaign-a $500 million successful fundraising effort and the largest campaign in the history of World Vision.
Clause works closely with donor groups to connect the resources of time, talent and treasure with global programs, and works to raise awareness of pressing global issues with a focus on at-risk children.
His field of expertise is in leading and managing start-up and long-term strategic businesses and fund-raising initiatives as a visionary, organizer, implementer and collaborative-minded leader.
John is an entrepreneurial, innovative and passionate national and global fundraising leader. He has traveled extensively across the globe through his work and has an enriched perspective on global issues and partnership solutions that address meeting the needs of the poor and oppressed.
John also has experience building and overseeing US-based community programs for at-risk children and families including developing and leading a significant collaborative Metropolitan New York-wide emergency response to 9-11 tragedy in New York City.
Clause served as the President and CEO of an east coast real estate holding and development company with offices throughout eastern Long Island, New York and in Ft. Myers, Florida. His work included both residential and commercial property acquisitions and sales as well as the financing, marketing and management of the development process for these holdings. During that time, he also maintained a private law practice and residential mortgage brokerage business.
John is a member of the Christian Leadership Alliance and has served on the advisory board of The National Council of Churches and the board of The New York City Leadership Center. He previously served on the advisory board of Concerts of Prayer Greater New York. He also teaches Sunday school classes on Christian character development with young teens.
John enjoys golf, reading, hiking, kayaking and family centered activities.
John is married to Susan for 28 years and has three daughters, Bethany (26) Sharon (24) and Christie (18).
