Myron McCurdy
Senior Program Advisor, World Children's Center

Myron Allen McCurdy is currently the Residential Administrator for the Milton Hershey School, in Hershey, PA - http://www.mhskids.org.

At the age of three, Myron (and his six siblings) became Wards of the Court, were placed into different foster homes and remained in Child Welfare custody for the duration of their childhoods. At the age of five, Myron and his two older brothers were fortunate to be enrolled in the Milton Hershey School, where they were joined the following year by their younger brother Don. Myron and his brothers would spend holidays and summer vacation periods in various foster homes over the years until their graduation from the Milton Hershey School. The three girls of the family were unable to attend Milton Hershey School at the time as the School enrolled only male children. Stuck in a life of revolving foster home placements, the three sisters never experienced the care, compassion, top-notch education and stability that Milton Hershey School has provided to over ten thousand underprivileged children since its founding in 1909.

Following graduation from the Milton Hershey School, Myron earned his undergraduate degree from Messiah College in Behavioral Sciences, and later earned a Master's Degree in Leadership and Business from Duquesne University. While attending Messiah College as a junior, Myron began working part-time at the Milton Hershey School as a weekend houseparent in the student homes of the school, where he and later joined by his new wife Janice served in that position for eighteen years. Upon graduation from Messiah College, Myron began his full-time career in social services as a Children's Protective Services caseworker in York County, PA. Over fifteen years with the Agency he served in various roles including Caseworker, Child Abuse Investigator, Foster Parent supervisor, Agency Supervisor and ultimately a director within the Agency.

In 2003 Myron was privileged to join the staff of the Milton Hershey School as a residential administrator where he continues to work. It was in this capacity working for the students and houseparent staff of Milton Hershey School that Myron was introduced to the World Children's Center Founders Donald and Cathy Whitney, and their incredible vision. In 2009 Myron spent six months' on sabbatical from Milton Hershey School and living in Atlanta, helped to refine and move forward the World Children's Center vision and program planning. Myron has continued in that effort serving as the World Children's Center Senior Program Advisor.

Myron continues to serve in various leadership roles for his local community on volunteer boards including the Little League Baseball Executive Board and as a coach, the local Youth Football Association Board and as a coach, and also on the board of The Joy of Sports Foundation (Hershey, PA). Other community support work includes serving as a volunteer consultant to several start-up children's Homes for under-resourced or socially disadvantaged children such as Marion New Life Academy (Marion, IN), Shiloh House (Littleton, CO), Hindman Settlement School (Hindman, KY), and most recently with Cornerstone Youth Home (York, PA). Myron has also had many opportunities to share his childhood experiences "in the system" and advocate for greater opportunities for at-risk children through speaking engagements which have included annual PA State Foster Parent Association conferences, PA County Commissioner's Association meetings, Pennsylvania Court Appointed Special Advocate (PA CASA) conferences, and a Pennsylvania Governor's Monthly Breakfast.

Myron's personal Faith and passion drives him to continue advocating for and working to create stronger educational opportunities and safer living situations for the multitude of socially disadvantaged and under-resourced children in the communities of our Nation.

Myron, his wife Janice and four of their children currently reside in Hershey, PA. His oldest son Moises Payamps lives in Atlanta with his wife and children and serves as Math Curriculum Administrator in the Clayton County Schools. Emily McCurdy graduated from Lockhaven University and serves as a Social Worker for special needs children in the Lancaster City School District. David McCurdy is a sophomore at Lockhaven University, majoring in Social Work. Elizabeth McCurdy is a Senior at Hershey High School and plans to study forensic accounting next year in college. Matthew McCurdy is a 7th grade honors student in Hershey Middle School and is very active in sports, church activities and his peer community.
